Sarah's Nepalese Adventure

On the 7th Jan I’ll be travelling to Nepal for 10 weeks to take part in a project with PlatForm2. The project is in Lamatar, which is just 13 km away from downtown Kathmandu. Although it is quite close to the city, it has a very rural atmosphere and is surrounded by agricultural land. There are only basic facilities and services in Lamatar.The project includes a number of different elements and will involve volunteers living and working alongside the community members.

So what will i be doing in Nepal? (other than running away from flying insects!!)

I'll be taking part in a wide range of work, including the following:
School Building Construction:
Constructing the pillars and cementing the roof, making and laying cement, digging, laying foundations, putting up columns and beams, basic woodwork and plumbing, tiling,brick, sand, cement, mud and stone carrying, helping the skilled workers to build the wall, making steps and stairs.
Informal After School Activities:
teaching conversational English, coaching sports, art, drama and music, helping care for younger children, playing and interacting with children of all ages
Community:
English Language and culture sharing – sharing life experiences and learning about each other’s lives.
